non-typical buck question

Good morning folks, I usually hang out in either the LM or MISC areas but I thought this might be a better place for this question. I also posted this question on the O'Neill Outside guest book. No response from O'Neill yet

I have spotted on my trail camera an odd looking rack on this 2-3 yr old buck.

He has very typical (and quite impressive) 4 points on the right and a 12 inch spike on the left.

My question is:

Should I attempt to harvest him this season or wait and see if his antler's grow differently next year?

In my experience, the odd side will not ever develop more.

3 Years ago we had the same problem with an old buck that only had huge main beams with no points.  I called the local DNR to see if someone from our camp could put it down, we have a 4 point on one side QDM in our county.  I was told no.  Last year 2 bucks taken had nice 4 point on one side and mangled racks on the other with the brow tien actually growing backwards into the deers skull.  This year one taken last weekend had a rough stump.  The DNR agent stated that the deer would not be alble to stud any of the does due to his inability to fight-- well thats the wrong answer and its messing up the local offspring in our area-- I say bust him - If I see ole main beam he will stop breathing and wrecking future racks

Here in the MS delta, after strict points rules were in place, we started having problems with this same type bucks. We call 'em half racks. For several years we could apply for 'special' buck tags for the WMA's to cull these bucks, as they are a huge detriment to the herd genetics.

How much a buck gets to reproduce depends, I think, more on his personality/attitude, than his headgear. We have all seen, heard of, or read about smaller racked bucks being the dominant buck in an area.

With all that said...I say...TAKE 'EM OUT!!!!

Thank you gentlemen,

I think I will do exactly that.  He's a young deer and my concern was "what if his rack will be better next year".  Based on you guys expert opinions , his rack will probably be the same, so..............he's on the "To Do List"

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
