Hey All, I am looking to hunt Wyoming in 2010 for Mule Deer. I am looking for advice on what Public land to hunt or on ranches allowing tresspass for a fee. Any part of the state would be acceptable. I have 3 preference points and most likely can draw anywhere. I've hunted antelope in Wyoming several times, and I was considering the Medicine Bow National Forest South of Saratoga. This is only because I've hunted antelope near there. I've also saw some nice Muleys in the Sheridan area while hunting antelope, but I didn't think there was much chance of gaining access there. I've checked out the Walk-in-Areas but I'm a little leary of hunting those areas for Muleys. I've seen nice muleys on a couple, but I figure the pressure for Muleys would be high on these areas. I would prefer more open areas versus national forests. I would be hunting with a handgun.

You could try the area around Coke Ville WY, there is a little of all kinds of terrain and easy access and some nice bucks get up before dawn and be on the mountain early
You can still hunt the trees to just keep the wind in your face , and good luck.

Coke ville is in the south western portion of WY I have in laws there and have been hunting up there a few times.
In Cokeville you go away from the flying J on main street and through town as soon as you get past the bridge go right and follow that road it goes through private land but you still have a right of way go past the barn and the fences take the next right and drive up the road 1/2-1 mile park and head over to the river(bear river) you should be able to find game trails to the river where they water and find an ambush spot then be there very early in the morning park at least 1/2 mile from where you hunt and sneak in in the dark good luck and good hunting Hhooo Yyaaa
and let me know how your hunt gose

Thanks again for the info. Cokeville looks to be in Region G, area 135, right? I was looking at it on Google Earth. What road are you taking out of town, Is that West or East on Main St. ? With that info I can zoom in pretty good to look at the area. Is flying J a bar, ranch? Is this BLM ground? Man, thanks once again for all your help!! Handgunner

Flying J is ths only gas station in coke ville on hy 30 you should be able to see it on google earth I think its E on main street from flying J its right across the street from gas station and is ths only road to go through the town follow it and comes to a T intersection go left then across the river on the bridge and it would be the next right go past the all building and take the next right .
How much are out of state tags for your hunting areas??
I mainly use a 30-06 for hunting but have been trying to get close enouph to use my 357 mag I load my own ammo so im sure if I could get close enouph it would knock them down?
And if you ever want to hunt Utah for muleys elk or Pronghorns let me know it is a draw only and you would have to regester with Utah wildlife.gov to put in GOOD LUCK and let me know how your Wy hunt goes.

The Ohio DNR website has had a glitch that won't let me look up the cost for a nonresident license. I do know that it is cheaper for nonresidents here than it is for Ohioans in surrounding states as alot of guys complain about the price difference. I believe that you will not have over$150 for your hunting license and a deer tag that is good for either a buck or a doe. It's over the counter and the tags are unlimited. You can also purchase up to I believe 11 doe tags. A total of 12 may be taken. This is a huge change from the previous 35 years I've been hunting and I'm not positive of all the regs. I looked on Goggle and found evrything you said until the part about the farm buildings. I'm not positive I found them. The road splits at one point. Do you keep to the right at that split and then take the right farther on? Is this BLM land? Handgunner

For 2009 a noresident license is $125. This lets you hunt small game and is required in addition to special permits for deer and turkey. The special permit for deer is $24 and $24 for turkey. Both special permits and the hunting lic. are over the counter. The doe tags are I belive $15 if bought and used before our gun season (Monday after Thanksgiving). No rifles here. Shotguns with slugs, Muzzleloaders (.45 cal and up, no muzzleloading handguns), and handguns larger than .357 Cal. with 5 inch barrel minimum. As I said I'm a handgun hunter. Mostly I use large bore specialty Handguns. My preference is an M.O.A Maximum. These were built in Ohio, but are now built in Wyoming. They're single shot lever action falling blocks. In Ohio I use one in .454 Casull cal. cause rifle calibers are not legal. InWyoming and other states where legal I use one chambered for .330 Dakota. The cal. is a .404 Jefferys case necked down to.338. See attached pic. The rounds in the pic are (l to r).454 Casull, .223 rem, and my beloved .330Dakota!! Handgunner
