I thought I'd give a try to the
.50 Caliber Black Powder Powerbelt 270-Grain AeroTip Platinum Bullets with 150 grain Triple 7 pellets. From last year 1" high at 100, I didn't hit paper at 100, then tried 50 & still nothing. Put up large piece of paper at 50, finally hit paper. After adjusting scope, the groups weren't closer than 3". I have heard bad things about power belts. Any input with suggestions on sobots and Trpple 7 pellet loads.

Get some loose powder and load 80 grains. Slow them down and they get better accuracy and performance. Also your Omega might not simply like powerbelts.
If you want to shoot 150 grains of powder, try some Shockwaves or Barnes MZ Expanders.

Ditto to the above. My omega loves 125 grains of loose 777 and a 250 grain shockwave. less than an inch at 100 yards. Live Life As You Should So The Preacher Wont Have To Lie At Your Funeral

Even though I'm a CVA guy the Cva I'm using right now won't shoot the powerbelts either. The last CVA loved the powerbelts I'm shooting 2 50 grain pellets and a 250 grain shockwave with 2" groups at 100 yds. Good luck

I have sighted in a few BP guns for folks. mine included.
Liked the idea of power belts but had to switch to TC 250 super glide shock waves in all makes and models that would not shoot the pwr belts.
Some guns do and some do not.
I never use much about 90 grains of loose powder though.
Never had the need to 150 grains, Kind of doubt that it burns in the length of the barrel but anyway try some other bullets also. T.H. Werth US Army (Ret) DA Civilian (Ret) Viet Nam Vet NAHC Life member NRA member

My CVA Optima doesnt like powerbelts. My brother has the same gun and his shoots powerbelts great. I couldnt get 2 in the same zip code. I switched to Shockwaves in the 250 grain and shot clovers at 100 yds very nice tight groups.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the input. I have done research, and from that, and your great info, I have come to the conclusion that my Omega won't shoot powerbelts the way I would want, so I've decided to go with the TC Superglide Shockwaves.
Thanks again all.

GREAT DECISION THERE JARHEAD. MY T/C TRIUMPH WOULD NOT SHOOT THEM EITHER AND I WENT WITH THE SHOCKWAVE SUPERGLIDE 250gr WITH 150gr OF 777 PELLETS AND I SHOOT 1" OR LESS GROUPS AT 100yds AND I TOUCH HOLES AT 50yds. ALL I KNOW IS A DEER THAT WALKS INTO MY SITE AND I HAVE A CLEAN SHOT, IT WOULDN'T STAND A CHANCE. I KNOW CAUSE THERE BE MAT IN DA FREEZER.

Just curious Deer Slayer #1 (or anyone), how do you think it will shoot with 100 Gr 777 pellets? I'm actually going to the range later today (after work) and shoot the Super Glides, and also I'm taking 240 Gr 44 Cal Hornady XTP w/ high pressure ribbed sabots, and also 300 Gr 45 Cal Hornady XTP w/ long sleeve high pressure sabots. So I should be able to find a load that works....hopefully before my arm falls off. Thanks for the info and good luck this year everyone. Let me know what you think of my plan for the range. Any feedback on the Hornady XTPs and which caliber you all have had the best results with would be great too.---Thanks

I’ve had pretty good luck with the 295grn. Aero tip power belts with 100 grns. 777 out of my T/C Omega. The plastic cup on the end of the power belts is the only part of the bullet that engages the rifeling. If you push them too fast, I feel it strips the rifeling. The same holds true with full bore lead conciles. Fred,

THE 100 GRAINS SHOULD WORK FOR THE SHOCKWAVES, BUT YOU WOULD BE BETTER WITH LOOSE 777 POWDER AND WORK UP A LOAD. REMEMBER TO KEEP THE GUN CLEAN. I CLEAN MINE AFTER 2 SHOTS. I TRIED 100 GRAINS(2 PELLETS) AND IT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME. NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW THE HORNADYS WILL WORK. I NEVER TRIED THEM IN MY TRIUMPH, BUT THEY WORK GREAT IN MY T/C HAWKENS FLINTLOCK ALONG WITH THE POWERBELTS WITH 90grs OF 3X PYRODEX THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE 240 gr 44cal HORNADY XTP/ GREEN SABOTS ARE, THEY ARE TOO HARD TO GET DOWN THE BARREL, SO THAT'S WHY I USE AEROTIP POWERBELTS. THEY GO DOWN EASY. I HOPE YOUR SHOULDER IS IN ONE PIECE AND THINGS WORKED OUT FOR YA.

Allright, Lets try this one more time without the quote!
#1: The plastic skirt on the powerbelt is, A. a gas seal that does the follow, Seal gas off in the bore + it makes for an easy slip fit loading conical.
#2: The powerbelt bullet is pure soft lead, as the powder charge ignites, the soft lead flares up into the rifling and again, the bullet itself also seals off escaping gasses and the bullet engages the rifling.
Sometimes you have to fiddle around with powders, primers and bullet weight before you hit the sweet spot.
Another deal with this rifle in question is the fact that TC's generally will not shoot full bore projectiles due to a misaligned QLA. They've improved in this area recently though but there are still a lot of complaints from the guys who have to use full bore conicals in their rifles.
See the links to view pics of a new powerbelt that was pushed down the bore. You can easily see the rifling engraved in the skirt and the bullet. When that bullet gets 20,000-30,000 psi behind it, that soft lead baloons into the bore and sealed it up and engages the rifling. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm53/thepowerbeltforum/348/powerbelt003.jpg
A recovered bullet shows the nice deep rifling engraved into the bullet, http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm53/thepowerbeltforum/348/348-CT-100-100gr-2.jpg
A few more bullets but the bullet on the right shows the rifling off the best, http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm53/thepowerbeltforum/444%20FP/Picture053.jpg
