Where would be the best place for forum posts about Bobcat hunting? I don't think they are big game nor varmint so where would it go?

I guess it would depend on which en of the Bobcat you have hold of and how happy he is that you got by it.....LOL Definatly preditor, but a hard one to call. The state of Lowysianna sez dey is big game since you kin only shootz dem during deer season. . BRIKATW

Well we have a season for them in Ky.
Short one too.
So I guess they would fall under small game, as most varmits we can hunt all year around.
Guess it depends on the state laws. T.H. Werth US Army (Ret) DA Civilian (Ret) Viet Nam Vet NAHC Life member NRA member

In SoCal it's a longer season and you do need a tag.

The state of Oregon considers them fur bearing animals and regulates them under the trapping regulations. I would think the best fit on the BB would be in the varmint forum but I saw a picture of one someone killed that weighed 106 lbs. That seems like pretty big game to me. Big Lance...

Sounds like a Mountain Lion at that weight. I got one that touched the ground when I held it shoulder high by the hind legs. It only weighed 40 lbs. That's pushing Big Game size animal to me. Wish I had a digital picture of it so I could post it, but only had the 35mm at the time.

NM has the same regulations as Oregon. I would tend to go to trapping or varmints since most of ours are shot by coyote callers who buy a trapping license.

here in South Dakota you need a fur bearer license to take bobcat. also when one is taken either by hunting or trapping you must present carcass and pelt to a game warden with in 5 days for registration and tagging or you can not legally buy or sell or trade the pelt.

Colorado classifies them as a fur-bearer. You can shoot one during the applicable season, but you need the fur bearer license and have to have the DOW place a seal on the skin before you can sell or mount one. I'm in Florida now and they are classified as small game. Come Dec 1, they are fair game, all you need is a hunting license. As to this statement" I saw a picture of one someone killed that weighed 106 lbs". I have to raise the B.S. flag. Someone may have claimed it weighed over 100 lbs, but that simply isn't possible. I've shot and trapped a bunch of them and have only seen 1 that went 45 lbs and it was huge for a bobcat. Did a quick search of the net and found this: "The adult male Bobcat is 28 to 40 inches (71 to 100 cm) long, averaging 35 inches (89 cm); with a stubby 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm) tail, which has a "bobbed" appearance and gives the species its name. An adult stands about 20 to 24 inches (51 to 61 cm) at the shoulders. Adult males usually range from 16 to 30 pounds (7.3 to 14 kg); females average about 20 pounds (9.1 kg). The largest bobcat on record weighed 48.9 pounds (22.2 kg)". I seriously doubt that someone has a valid, undoctored photo of one more than twice as big as the biggest ever recorded. 50 pounds or maybe even 55 pounds, I'd believe. 106 pounds? No way. Artificial intelligence is no substitute for natural stupidity.

I certainly can't say for sure if the cat in the picture was 106 lbs but that was the claim. This was many years ago and long before photoshop or even personal computers for that matter. The guy was holding the cat up with a bear hug around it's chest just under the forelegs so that it's head was about even with his. The hind legs were still on the ground. I don't know if it weight 106 but it surely weighed more than 50. One thing for sure is that it was one big pussy cat. The story was they were hunting with hounds and thought, by the tracks, that they were on the trail of a cougar. It was one of those little one or two paragraph articles in the back of one of the major hunting and fishing magazine but I don't remember which one. Outdoor Life, Sports Afield or Field and Stream. I'm going to say late seventies or early eighties. But of course all the years just seem to kind of blend together anymore. Big Lance...
