need recommendations towards the purchase of a new scope for my hvy bbl TC in .223.  Want to buy one that has quality but affordability.  The recticle that i need/want is one with a target dot like the burris electro dot in the x of the crosshairs.  Price IS a consideration on retirement pension, but want the best that i can afford to buy.  Thank you.

If price matters it helps if you give us a range you will spend..

For good quality and middle of the road prices, I've started looking at Weaver.  I have two now and like them very much.  One is on a 30-30 and the other on a 22 mag.

If you are really needing/wanting the Burris Electro Dot scope then start saving and buy that scope. If your willing to settle for something less, these are good scopes under $200 Leupold Rifleman, Nikon Pro Staff, Bushnell Trophy.

Bushnell 3200 Elite is a fine scope in that price range. The 10 power fixed would be a good choice for long distance varmit shooting with your 223., costs about  $225. The 3-9 variable is a fine all around scope as well.

I have been using the Bushnell Elite series scopes with rain guard on my rifles as of late and really like them. They have performed well uinder every conceivable kind of weather condition that you could be hunting in and never once failed me.

I have shot through Leupold scopes until I viewed through a Nikon Pro Staff and fell in love with it. It's under 200 bucks and is clearer and brighter than any of my Leupolds. Nikon is hard to beat!

Here check this site out. You may find something there that fits your needs. Then check with WheelsV and see if he could get you a better deal.
