Due to an illness this year, I have to stand hunt. I'v hunted from tree stands, still hunted, and tracked deer. Are there disavantages to hunting from one area and vantage point. I'm hunting a ridge line near a creek area, Theres plenty of deer sighn. Any suggestions ,

First of all, welcome to the club! I would suggest that if you want more responses, post this thread in the 'Whitetails' forum. What are the woods like? Is it sparse or dense? How far away do you think your shots will be? What kind of weapon are you using?

Thanks, I,ll post under white tail next time. I'm hunting a pine ridge overlooking a creek bottom  and a beaver pond. Woods is pretty dense, I have shots from 50yds to 100 yds.I found a lot of sighn in the area.I'll use a 30/30 or most likly a 30.06.

Sounds like a plan. .30-30 or ought-6 will work  just fine. Thing is, you might have a hard time hearing the deer, as there might be an updraft because of the ridge. And that same updraft make make you a bit colder. Otherwise, happy hunting! Good luck!

I agree this sounds like a nice set up. Don't forget to play the wind, and try not to set up on the very ridge itself as it will be easier for deer to silhouette you. One thing we always did in an area similar to what you describe, we used windfalls and pine branches to make blinds. The pine/cedar help mask your scent. Good luck!

If the ridge line has a ravine or dip in it, try to set up where you can cover that.  Deer will often use it for cover while going up or down the hill.  If there is an area of heavy cover, try to keep an eye on that.    If you've got both the cut and the cover, get between them.
