Does any one know of a device on the market for a one armed bow hunter to use to shoot their bow? I have seen some for use if you still have some arm left, but not for someone missing from shoulder down.
Pick up a bow and take a kid hunting.

Patch, a few years ago I saw a fellow with that set up..had a device that would hold the string back after he used his one arm to draw it, using a foot sturup to hold it with his foot...once drawn he would knock an arrow and used a mouth release to shoot...he got pretty dang good with that thing...he's not in the area any more but I check to see if any one knows were he got it... |

Two Tales and Holly, I found something called the lock-a-draw, it is a bar that you hold the string back with after using a stirrup to hold the bow for cocking. I have come up with a way for me to shoot my bow, using one arm. I will probably be able to use my other arm to shoot again next year, but don't want to set out this year of hunting, and can't see buying a crossbow for one season. At this point I am pulling enough weight to hunt antelope and deer, but I need to check it out for elk, here in Idaho 40# is the minimum for hunting. We will have to see how it goes. I checked with Cabela's and they will do some research, but aren't sure what they can get. Thank you both for the info. Patch

Thank you all, for your help. I found stuff for partial amputees, and those who can use a cross bow or string holder, but I haven't found what I am able to use and afford, (I have my arm, but just am not able to really use it yet) I took some ideas others had and some I had and put them together. I shot 2-3" group at 30 yd yesterday with broad heads. I am setting up blinds tomorrow after work, and am hunting antelope starting the 15th. I can start lifting a little more than a pound with my right arm, but can't crawl around with it for a while yet so I need to use a blind. Any ideas how far I should set my blinds from a trail? At this point 30 yd is my max shot. Thanks again y'all. Patch |
